From Psalm 91
Hope from Today’s Reading:
"God will save you from hidden traps and from deadly diseases. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you can hide. His truth will be your shield and protection. You will not fear any danger by night or an arrow during the day. You will not be afraid of diseases that come in the dark or sickness that strikes at noon. ... The Lord is your protection." (Psalm 91:3–6, 9 NCV)
The Lord is your protection, and this passage explains what that means: no hidden traps, no sneaking-up-on-you diseases. Anything that touches your life has already passed through His all-loving, all-caring, all-knowing hands. But don't miss this important piece, tucked in the heart of this passage:
His truth will be your ... protection.
The Lord is your protection, but one way He lives out this promise is by giving you His truth—words He's written down through men and prophets, saints and scholars, through the centuries; words that have carefully, providentially, and purposefully made their way to you.
The Lord is your protection, but this protection doesn't come to us—not entirely, anyway—when we assume a posture of passivity. It comes when we search, when we dig, when we lean on and lift up and live out His powerful, able-to-protect-you Truth.
