He Is Good
From Psalm 58
Hope from Today's Reading:
"Then people will say, 'Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.'"(Psalm 58:11 NIV)
It doesn't take long. When you choose to trust, to seek, to follow the Lord, it doesn't take long before you look around and compare your life to someone else's, someone who's just "doing their thing." And, from the outside at least, "their thing" is turning out well: they're getting married, you're not. They're getting promoted, you're not. They're happy, healthy, living the dream ... you're not.
Lonely, frustrated, trying, trying, trying—for what?
Hebrews 11:6 says, "Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists." But there's another part to this verse we can't neglect: "... and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
It's not enough to believe that He exists. To have a sustainable faith—a faith that endures hardship, that outlasts tragedy, that keeps growing and living, even blooming, despite the odds and despite the drought—you also have to believe that He is good. You have to believe that, if not today, your efforts to seek Him will be rewarded.
And they will. This is not a gamble. There's an entire Book written with a track record of God's unstoppable love through the ages. Not to mention His personal track record of faithfulness to you. One day, all people will say, "Surely the righteous still are rewarded" (Psalm 58:11). Today, let the words start with you.
